So long as your friend in now on effective HIV treatment (called ART), they are likely to do very well.
ART will also reduce the risk of other complications including TB, as their CD4 count gets stronger.
Some people see their CD4 count increase quickly and other more slowly. This might take a few months or it might take a couple of years but please don’t worry about this time.
Sometimes getting a slow and steady increase is better that a rapid increase.
