Question
What if my skin doctor says they can’t help?

Hello, I think I have been HIV positive for many years without knowing it.
I found out in December 2023 because of folliculitis that has persisted since then. The dermatologist prescribed me the HIV test. As soon as I found out, I started antiretrovirals almost a month ago. However, the folliculitis persists and the pimples on my face itch so much that I can no longer go to work.
The dermatologist in Morocco told me they no longer have a solution. My question is should I change dermatologist or is there another solution you can recommend?
Thank you in advance
Answer
Hi there
Skin complications need to be managed by a doctor who can see the rash or pimples in real life. This is one of the things we can only give general info about only.
Please ask to see a different dermatologist.
What is your CD4 count? If it is less than 350, then perhaps ask your HIV doctor to be involved.
If it is higher than 350, then this is not likely to be related to HIV so a better dermatologist would be good.
