Question
Would exposure to the air affect my HIV test?
25 August 2010. Related: All topics, HIV testing.
What are serum based test tubes? I had a home testing kit from freedom health in london. I got this tube and needle sent out to me but was damaged. So obviously I never used the kit – however the nurse took my blood and she simply transfered it into the tube sent out to me as the needle did not fit. Would this affect the outcome of the test if exposed to air or am I just being silly?
Answer
Thank you for your question.
Being exposed to the air would have no effect on the results of your test. A serum-based test tube is a tube used to separate blood into serum and red blood cells. They use these test tubes in the laboratory and spin them very fast to separate out the blood for testing.
