Q and A

Question

I am travelling to Brazil – which vaccinations are safe for me to have?

Dear i-Base

I am HIV positive on HAART with a CD4 count of over 400 and planning a trip to Brazil. Are there any travel vaccinations I should avoid?

Thank you!

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Vaccinations in HIV positive people are similar to those in HIV negative people.

For more information about the vaccinations required for Brazil please follow this link.

All of these vaccines are safe to have if your CD4 count is above 200. Yellow Fever is very important but is the vaccine some positive people worry about because it is a live attenuated vaccine. This means it is a live infectious particle which has been changed so that you will build an immune response to it without getting the infection itself.
