Q and A

Question

Why do I need another test at 3 months after an exposure?

Hello

Thank you for your teams support.

Could you explain why the NHS GUM Clinics are telling people testing negative with the DUO/combi tests that they are not conclusive at 28 days and that they need to test again at 12 weeks?

I believe you have said on this forum that the BAASH have given out clear guidance that 28 days negative results (except on PEP) are considered conclusive except when a postive test is presented.

I have tried for over a week to find this guidance I would be grateful for the link or information on this release fro them on this please.

I have a received a negative DUO test five weeks post exposure, and was very pleased to get this result, and now have started to get depressed and very anxious with this information for the clinic.

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Please follow this link for a very comprehensive answer regarding the BASHH guidelines and why it is that some GUM clinics still ask patients to do a confirmatory test at 3 months.
