Q and A

Question

Can HIV positive people go to a sauna without any harm to their health?

In negative people it’s known that sauna’s stimulate the immune system. In the case of positive people boosting the immune system could be good and bad as well. I couldn’t find any study about that topic (only studies about HIV and possible risk of infection in saunas) and I’d like to know if I can continue going to a sauna without any risk of faster progression of my infection (no matter the possible good effect on my immune system). I have good immunity above 650 CD4 cells/ml.

Thank you.

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Going to a sauna will not cause your infection to progress faster. There is no risk to your health from going to a sauna, it is probably very good for you.

Hi Sandra – whoever told you this information is wrong. If you enjoy a sauna, please don’t worry about it affect your HIV. The same for heat in general. People in hot countries do not have more HIV problems that colder countries. Your body is at the same temperature, wherever you live.

will a sauna cause a breakdown of your immune system to cause colds and viruses? Too much heat is not good for your immune system
