Q and A

Question

I am HIV positive and on treatment, could my test show negative now?

I am HIV positive, on medication (Atripla on my third year now) and well controlled (undetectable viral load, normal CD4 count, healthy in general). Is there any chance that I would test false negative for HIV?
Thanks

Answer

Thank you for your question.

If you are HIV positive then you will not test HIV negative. However, if your viral load has been undetectable for a long time it will mean that the antibodies you have for HIV will have reduced. This could potentially cause a false negative result but it is unlikely.
