I am newly diagonosed. I would like to talk to some one whose has been HIV positive for few years. Can you please help?
Answer
Thank you for your question.
The best point to start is your treatment center. Ask your doctor or a nurse if there is a patient group at your centre. If there is no patient group at your clinic, ask to be directed to a local support group in your area.
You can also call Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) Direct – 0845 1221 200 – who may know of other support groups.
Lastly, if you have a question related to HIV treatment, please do give us a call (0808 800 6013). Just speaking with someone else who has been HIV-positive for a while can make a big difference. The phoneline workers at i-Base are all HIV-positive.
Best of luck.
I am afraid, it is fairly difficult nowadays, especially if you are capable to work, but I would suggest you contact your local social worker to find out about options.
I am
I too was recently diagnosed and have just started treatment (6wks after) as my CD4 count was very low, so have probably have lived with this for a few years. You are not alone and there are some really cool people out there that can help you.
When i was first diagnosed, it felt like my world had come crashing down around me, but now things seem really different. I’m so much calmer and relaxed about things, even with just having started treatment. Pace website (www.pacehealth.org.uk) has some really cool stuff on it. There’s also a few chatrooms at the gaydar website.
There’s loads of support out there, so take advantage and surround yourself with people that you feel comfortable with and are there to support you.
