Could my period affect my result?

Hello there. I would really appreciate an answer to my question if possible, apologies in advance if its a silly one. I had an HIV 1/2 antibody test in 2006 which came back negative. I was on my period when I had my test done and wondered if this could have affected my test result AKA given me a false negative? Kind regards.
