Q and A

Question

If I am HIV negative is there any chance my baby can be HIV positive?

Is it possible to have a HIV+ baby while me as a mother I am negative.

I tested HIV-negative, several times but the way i see my son i feel uncomfortable because he is not growing very well, rashes and Lymph nodes, fever. Is this a sign of HIV?

I have a 17 months son and was breastfeeding, but i stopped breastfeeding when my husband was very sick because i did not want my son to sense the feeling i was experiencing.

My husband passed away 1 month ago after he had been diagnosed HIV+ three months ago.

Answer

I am very sorry to hear about your husband and hope you have support and are coping ok.

Your son is not HIV positive. If you are HIV negative then your son is HIV negative. Even if the father is HIV-positive the babies HIV status is related to the mother.

If your son is not well then it is important you take him to a doctor for expert medical advice and medical treatment. His symptoms could be caused by many things.
