Question
I am HIV positive. Can I study in America and Europe?
17 January 2012. Related: All topics.
I am HIV positive and I want to further my studies abroad in Europe or US.
Is it possible?
I am from the Chinese mainland.
Answer
The best thing for you to do is to contact the Embassies of the different countries you are interested in going to. They will be able to provide you with more detailed information. This will include whether you can study there as well as important information about what, as a student, you will be eligible for, in terms of access to health care.
Best wishes
Hi Atul,
The following web site:
http://www.hivrestrictions.org/
Gives information about restrictions for people entering into Australia and the US. For info about student visas you will need to contact the embassies of the countries where you would like to study. You’ll also need to take into consideration how you’ll fund your treatment.

Dear all,
I would like to study in China, but I am HIV positive. Is there any possibility to be rejected by the universities or the government?
Thanks for your help.
thanks for you comment :)
Hiv positive or negative should not matter for your studies abroad. I might be Hiv positive too but nobody tested me for that.
Hi Babilas
I answered your question byt email earlier this week.

HIV positive i don’t know if I can still travel to study in Belgium
Hi Rachel,
That depends on where you are wanting to study. For example in the EU and the US there are no restrictions on the entry and stay of people who have HIV.
This site has a database of places that have restrictions. You can look at individual countries that you are considering studying in.
