Are there any HIV medications in development?

I want to know if there are any HIV drugs in process that will be less toxic and easier to take as I have heard that the current ones have side effects that are really hard to tolerate.

Yes. There is still a lot of research including into drugs that work in different ways. Some of these drugs in development are reported here.
The Treatment Action Group in New York produce a very useful pipeline report each year for HIV, hepatitis, TB and immune-based treatment) which you can download as a PDF file.
As for the side effects, even the current medications have in the majority of the cases mild to moderate side effects.
Most people worry about starting treatment because of side effects, but find it much easier than they thought when they do start. If there are difficulties, then switching or modifying treatment should also be easy.
