Q and A

Question

Shall I retest?

Hi,
I just had an HIV test and the result was negative. I am still worried because I had a brief relationship in June and July and I tested the 15th of September. So It’s basically 3 months and half after the first intercourse and just 1 month and half since the last.
The doctor said, it shoul be fine, but should I believe this?
I tested in Galway and I don’t even know what kind of test they use ( I was so nervous that I didn’t ask ).
Do you know what test they use in the Galway STI (Ireland)?
Should I repeat the test?
They say that after 3 months the result is sure.
What does this result mean? My biggest fear is that this person slept with someone else in this period of time.

Answer

The doctor is right.

I do not know what kind of tests they use in your clinic, I am afraid.

We advise everybody with an active sexual life to get tested regularly – say every six months. There is more on testing and transmission here.
