Q and A

Question

Can I continue my treatment in Dublin?

Can I continue my combination treatment of efavirenz (600mg), stavudine (30mg), lamivudine(150mg) while I’m working in Dublin, Ireland. Thank you.

Answer

If you are a student that will be in Dublin for more than six months it should be easy to access treatment whilst working in Ireland.  The doctor may recommend changing one of your treatment though as d4T (stavudine) is rarely used in the UK. It is still available however if this is the decision that you and your doctor make.

You can also receive free treatment if you coming to live/work in the Republic of Ireland. There is a ‘self-help guide’ published at the Dublin AIDS Alliance website for people who are coming over to live/work in Ireland.

You will need to register with one of the HIV clinics and provide them with official documentation of your medical records (preferably in English).

The records should include: the date when you were diagnosed; your current viral load and CD4 count results; the medication that you are currently taking and whether you have any other illnesses.  You also need to give them your contact details including your postal and email address.

I hope this information is useful. If after you read it you still need more information, please contact Dublin AIDS Alliance on: 00353 1873 3799. Their website is www.dublinaidsalliance.ie
