Shall I start treatment immediately when I have a cold or wait?

I am HIV +ve. If I get a cold, should I take medication for cold immediately or wait for the immune system to develop a response itself? Because one of my mates said that I should wait for the immune system to develop a response and that’s good for health. Is that true?
