Question
Is my result conclusive?
14 December 2008. Related: All topics, HIV testing.
I recently had an HIV test which was negative (had the test at just over 3 months). I only had a test for HIV and did not have a test for syphillis or any other STD.
Is my negative result conclusive or can HIV still show up through undiagnosed syphillis or other STD?
Answer
3 months is enough. We advise everybody with an active sexual life to get tested regularly-say, every six months. The HIV test results do not depend on presence/absence of any other STI.
