Q and A

Question

Does HIV treatment involve injections in the backside?

Answer

No. There is only one injectable antiretroviral agent at the moment. It is called enfuvirtide (T-20, Fuzeon).

It is injected twice daily (every 12 hours) subcutaneously (under the skin) and usually in the area of the stomach.

The medicine is used only by very few people nowadays and it is only used if you have extensive drug resistance.

The rest of the treatments are oral (pills).
