Which malaria prophylaxis is best?
10 October 2012. Related: All topics, Drug interactions.
I’m currently on the following combination:
Kivexa (abacavir + 3TC), ritonavir and Prezista (darunavir)
Can you advise which malaria prophylaxis will work best for this combination for travel to Kenya?
Answer
Hello,
There are several different types of malaria prophlylaxis. Which one is the best for your trip will depend on many factors, including the length of stay and the area you are visiting. It’s important to talk to your GP or a travel health expert about this to get the best option for you.
Some antimalarials do interact with ritonavir and darunavir (Prezista). You (or your doctor) can check individual interactions on hiv-druginteractions.org
