Question

Pregnant with a low CD4 count

I am HIV positive and pregnant. I have a very low CD4 count. Please help me, what should I do?

Answer

Hello,

Are you on treatment yet?

Without knowing more about your situation I can only give you very general information.

In South Africa people are recommended to start ARVs when their CD4 count is 350 or below. This includes pregnant women.

    Hi Sally,

What your nurse has said is very true. As soon as someone starts meds their viral load begins to drop, and drop very quickly. This is really important when someone is pregnant.

Due to you having a low CD4 count of 26, you should ideally follow the advice that’s in this link:

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
