Question
Will there be a combined darunavir and ritonavir pill?
5 March 2013. Related: Access to treatment, All topics.
With darunavir 800mg being recently launched in the UK and ritonavir coming off patent, is there any chance we could see a single combination product soonish? It would make life simpler.
Answer
Hi,
Thank-you for your question.
There are not currently any plans to create a fixed dose combination of darunavir and ritonavir but there are plans to combine darunavir with cobicistat, which is a booster similar to ritonavir. This could be a potential alternative to taking darunavir and ritonavir seperately.
The companies involved in producing this new drug expect to apply for a license in 2015.
