Q and A

Question

Can I take zyban pills to stop smoking if im on HIV treatment?

Answer

Yes, it is a good idea, as quitting smoking will be very beneficial for your health in the long run.

No particular interactions with the ARVs are expected, but it is always good to be alert and if you notice something unusual to talk to your doctor.

    Hi Sizakele,

It’s good that you want to start treatment (ART) with a strong CD4 count. And Odimune is safe and effective.

Many people get mild side effects when starting ART. These are usually mild and go away within the first week or two.

Please talk to your doctor about the mild side effects you might get at first. You can also ask about any rare serious reactions that must be reported to your doctor quickly.

Please don’t be scared. Starting ART with a high CD4 count doesn’t mean you’ll get worse side effects.
