Question
How long will my mum live?
9 May 2013. Related: All topics, Life expectancy.
My mother is 40 years old and she has recently started the ART treatment with less than 200 CD4 counts. How long can she live?
Answer
Hi,
Thanks for your email. With ART people with HIV can live long and healthy lives. If your mum’s CD4 count was close to 200 when she started treatment this is still good. Even with lower CD4 counts many people do very well on ART.
Provided that your mother takes her treatment properly and doesn’t have any other health conditions she should have a very good life expectancy-almost the same as somebody without HIV.
You can read more about starting treatment in our Introduction to combination therapy.

Hi.
My husband and I are both hiv positive and healthy, and we would like to get pregnant. How do we go about it without compromising our already compromised health.
Thanks,
Mita
