Q and A

Question

How long can I live on Atroiza?

I’m a girl aged 20 and I’m HIV positive. My CD4 is 174 and I’m taking atroiza.

I want to know how long can I live?

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Having HIV can sometimes be difficult. But modern treatment is very effective. It means that you can have a near-normal life expectancy and a good quality of life.

Nobody can predict how long anyone will live. This depends on things you can change (smoking, exercise, medication) and thing you can’t (genetics and bad luck).

Do you have any support to deal with being HIV positive? If you are in South Africa you could contact the Treatment Action Campaign for information about treatment and support in your area.

The i-Base Introduction to combination therapy guide also has general information about treatment.

Atroiza is a generic version of Atripla.

Please me know if you have any questions or I can help further.

    Hi Linda,

Its good to hear that you’re doing well with atrozia.

In response to your question. Taking atrozia like you have been is fine.

Hi. Atroiza is not so bad after it has kicked in your system. I’ve been using it for more than 3 months now and I’m fine. I would like to know if it is neccessary to take them on the exact same time. I take it e.g 20h00 every evening? And if I dont take it on the exact time will it do any harm? I’ve noticed that i take the drug everytime when i go to bed but not 24 hourly. Maybe 2 hour difference

    Hi Zanele,

Feeling dizzy is a common side effect when starting atrozia. It should go though within a few weeks. If you’re still feeling dizzy after a few weeks, please talk to your doctor.

    Hi Morake,

When did you start taking atrozia? If it was just a few weeks ago, then the side effects with probably go. If it was longer then you should talk to your doctor. For more info on atrozia, (a generic of Atripla) please see the following link:

Because ARVs are the only thing that can help your HIV, its important that you don’t stop taking them. That is until you have talked to your doctor and they have given you something else.

I’ve started taking atroiza. I wake up every day with a headache and I feel dizzy. I really want to stop taking my medication.
