Q and A

Question

How long can I live on Atroiza?

I’m a girl aged 20 and I’m HIV positive. My CD4 is 174 and I’m taking atroiza.

I want to know how long can I live?

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Having HIV can sometimes be difficult. But modern treatment is very effective. It means that you can have a near-normal life expectancy and a good quality of life.

Nobody can predict how long anyone will live. This depends on things you can change (smoking, exercise, medication) and thing you can’t (genetics and bad luck).

Do you have any support to deal with being HIV positive? If you are in South Africa you could contact the Treatment Action Campaign for information about treatment and support in your area.

The i-Base Introduction to combination therapy guide also has general information about treatment.

Atroiza is a generic version of Atripla.

Please me know if you have any questions or I can help further.

    Hi Patricia,

Co-triaxozole and bactrim are the same thing. They are a drug that can help prevent infections in people who have low CD4 counts. What ARVs is your son taking?

    Hi Percy,

Dizziness is a normal side effect when beginning atrozia. It should go within 2-4 weeks. For more info on atrozia, (which is a generic of Atripla) and efavirenz see the following links:

I started to use atroiza. My cd4 count is 309 , I am 21 year old male.

I have been experiencing dizziness, abnormal sensation. I have been in treatment for a week now.I started to lose appetite ,naturally I am not a bigger eater or food lover but now it is worse. I just want to know how long will this side effects last ? and what can I also do in the mean while.

    Hi Michael,

Pryidoxine is a B6 vitamin. I don’t know what the other med is that you mention. I also don’t know what your wife has tested positive for. Could you just ask her?

Hi Puleng, it sounds like you have just been unlucky with side effects. This should get easier, but talk to your clinic if it continues. Also, if you can see the tablets when you are sick, it is important to take a new dose, as the drugs will not have been absorbed,
