Question
How long can I live on Atroiza?
18 June 2013. Related: All topics, Life expectancy.
I’m a girl aged 20 and I’m HIV positive. My CD4 is 174 and I’m taking atroiza.
I want to know how long can I live?
Answer
Hi,
Thanks for your email.
Having HIV can sometimes be difficult. But modern treatment is very effective. It means that you can have a near-normal life expectancy and a good quality of life.
Nobody can predict how long anyone will live. This depends on things you can change (smoking, exercise, medication) and thing you can’t (genetics and bad luck).
Do you have any support to deal with being HIV positive? If you are in South Africa you could contact the Treatment Action Campaign for information about treatment and support in your area.
The i-Base Introduction to combination therapy guide also has general information about treatment.
Atroiza is a generic version of Atripla.
Please me know if you have any questions or I can help further.
I’m positive, my partner is negative, I’m on meds, can we have a kid. Will I transmit?
Hi Serviour,
Please see Q6 here:

If you are on medication and have an undetectable viral load the risk of transmission is close to zero. For more info, see here:

Hi Thabiso,
There is a possibility that resistance may have happened. Therefore, its important that you have your CD4 count retested as well as your viral load. And if possible a resistance test carried out. You should talk to your doctor about this. It is however good that you want to restart meds.
I started taking Atrozia last year and defaulted for 8months. l have since started taking them again am l at any risks of maybe the tablets not responding to me?
Hi Phumzile,
Winthrop is a preventative treatment for TB and can be used together with ARVs. If you think that the Winthrop is causing you problems, you will need to speak to a doctor. If you’re new to meds, the headaches could be due to the meds.
Can I take my ARVs without Winthrop because its cause me real headache. I can’t afford to do anythings when I take Winthrop.
Hi Moss.
How long have you been on meds for? And have there been any changes in your life style between March 24th and now?
