Q and A

Question

How long can I live on Atroiza?

I’m a girl aged 20 and I’m HIV positive. My CD4 is 174 and I’m taking atroiza.

I want to know how long can I live?

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Having HIV can sometimes be difficult. But modern treatment is very effective. It means that you can have a near-normal life expectancy and a good quality of life.

Nobody can predict how long anyone will live. This depends on things you can change (smoking, exercise, medication) and thing you can’t (genetics and bad luck).

Do you have any support to deal with being HIV positive? If you are in South Africa you could contact the Treatment Action Campaign for information about treatment and support in your area.

The i-Base Introduction to combination therapy guide also has general information about treatment.

Atroiza is a generic version of Atripla.

Please me know if you have any questions or I can help further.

    Hi Zandile,

i-base is a service that is for people living with HIV. If you have think you may have been exposed to HIV you will need to test. If you’ve never had sex without a condom with your boyfriend you will not be positive. Also your boyfriend being on medication is a type of protection. Please see Q’s 1 and 9 here:

    Hi Lebogang,

Atrozia is an ARV. Its used to treat HIV. Its given to people who are positive. If your friend doesn’t think he is positive he will need to discuss this with a doctor.

    Hi

Me and my friend we are in a confusion, he went to the clinic for a test and they said his CD4 count is 400 and they said nothing about the viral load or if he is positive or negative but they gave him atroiza pills, they said they will increase his CD4 count

What does this suppose to mean

If his CD4 count has been increased can he be able to leave those pills?
