Question
What shall I do about molluscum?
8 September 2009. Related: All topics, Opportunistic infections.
Hi i-base,
I was diagnosed HIV+ just under 3 years ago and started combination therapy 5 months ago.
I recently broke out in a case of what I believe to be Molluscum contagiosum on my face and have been looking into treatment.
Could you please provide some information on Molluscum contagiosum in HIV+ patients and the complications of taking thuja, which I have opted for, in treatment of such warts.
I am currently taking Truvada, ritonavir and Reyataz.
Thank you.
Answer
Firstly, a dermatologist needs to see this, to assess whether it is really molluscum. Self-diagnosis is hardly ever a good thing to do, even if you are a medical professional yourself.
There is very detailed information about molluscum (including on treatment) at the following link:

A more detailed overview is available from the US CDC here, Johns Hopkins HIV site here and HIV inSite here.
Please note that thuja is not a treatment that would normally be used.
