Q and A

Question

Can I put the ritonavir in the fridge now?

Once open, I didn’t put Norvir into the fridge, because I understood that it will be perfect under 25 degrees. After 20 days, is it ok to put it into the fridge from now on (I still have more than 60 pills)?

Answer

Generally, it is better to keep ritonavir in the fridge, just to be on the safe side. In addition, sometimes when it is not in the fridge, the pills become sticky and this worries many people.

It is fine to put your pills in the fridge now and use them, as long as they have not been in open in hot temperature during the period you had them out. Ritonavir can be kept out of the fridge for up to 30 days so long as it stays below 25 degrees C.

The pharmacies in the UK put a sticker ‘Keep refrigerated’ on the ritonavir when they give it to the person, so from now on you may decide to follow that too, for your peace of mind.

But if you are travelling for a few days, or are away for a week or two, so long as it is not a hot country, this will be fine.
