Q and A

Question

Is a CD4 count of 433 good?

My CD4 count is 433 and my viral load is 15000.

I am not on medication.

Are these numbers good?

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Both your CD4 count and viral load are good for somebody who is not on treatment. Treatment is usually recommended when your CD4 count is 350 or below. While your CD4 count is above this level your risk of HIV related symptoms or illnesses is very low because your immune system is still strong.

You can read more about CD4 counts in our guide to starting treatment.

    Hi Derrick,
‘Cellfood’ is a nutritional supplement. There are unlikely to be any interactions between this and ARVs, but there is very little data on this. It is a good idea, though, to tell your doctor about this, and any other medication or supplements you are taking.
