Question
How can I maintain my high CD4?
23 January 2014. Related: All topics.
Hello sir,
I have been HIV+ for two years.
My last CD4 count was 1044. I am not on medication.
What can I do to maintain this CD4 level?
What is my life expectancy?
Answer
Hi,
Thanks for your email.
1044 is a very good CD4 count! This shows that your immune system is very strong.
Without ARVs it is likely that your CD4 count will decrease over time. The speed at which this happens is different for each person and it is difficult to estimate this. There are no herbs, supplements or other drugs that can maintain your CD4 count. Eating well and generally looking after your health may slow down this decline but this is not guaranteed.
You can see information about the average rates that HIV progresses in different people here.
Your life expectancy is very good. So long as you start treatment when you need to (before your CD4 count drops under 350) then your lie expectancy is similar to somebody who is HIV negative.
