My husband was diagnosed, can you tell when he became positive?

My husband was told he is HIV positive last October, I tested negative. Seven years ago he came home with open sores on and around his penis, he was flu like, swollen glands on his neck and his groin area. He had a few days of going to the toilet, and really tired. Could that have been HIV entering his body?

Unfortunately it is not really possible to tell when someone because positive. It could have been at the time you describe but it could just as easily have been another time.
If he is not on treatment it is a good idea to use condoms when you have sex. This will prevent you becoming positive.
