Q and A

Question

When should I take efavirenz if I work night shifts?

When must I take my meds. I’m working night shifts and only sleep during the day?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

If your meds contain efavirenz, if you can, you should take it just before you go to bed. This will help with any possible side effects.

Are you always on night shifts or do you sometimes alternate between days and nights?

If you alternate, the difference in side effects can be difficult and your doctor might be able to give you a different HIV combination.

In practice, always taking before you sleep is best – whether this is day or night.

Hi Scott, yes it is okay to take Atripla. Atripla is often recommended to be taken in the evening as to avoid side effects while you sleep. As you are sleeping differently to most, it might be easier to take Atripla before you go to bed each night (depending on when you sleep for work).

    Hi Tm,

The best thing to do it to take a combination that doesn’t contain efavirenz, is this possible?
