Q and A

Question

Do babies need to use NVP after 6 weeks?

I’ve been giving my baby NVP for the last 6 weeks. I’ve never breastfeed, do I need to continue?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

All babies born to positive mother need to take a course of ARVs.

Please see here: https://i-base.info/guides/pregnancy/will-baby-need-hiv-drugs

As you’re not breastfeeding there may be no need to continue with the NVP.

However, please also talk to your doctor about any changes to the meds for you and your baby.

    Hi Mellisa,

It’s great to hear that your son is negative, this is excellent news. As he’s not positive, if he has a health issue that you’re concerned about you should take your son to see a doctor.

I’m a positive mother with a 2year 9months son. He did all the tests and was negative but since birth his lymph nodes behind the head are always swollen…
They are not big but only grow when he got a cold or injury on the head.
They have been there but they are small…
They do move and are very soft. I don’t understand why. Should i be worried?
    Please assist.
