Question

What happens if I overdose on ARV’s?

A few months ago I took about 20 ARV’s. I was angry and alone and I didn’t now what to do. I did eventually get over it and I have never told anyone. Can you tell me if I should be worried or tell my doctor?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing now?

Please do see your doctor. They will be able to discuss how best to address this. Talking this through with a health care professional can seek to provide how best to move on in the future. You will also be able to receive the most appropriate medical care for your situation.

Did you experience any immediate side effects after taking this many ARV’s? It is possible that there is long-term damage but this will need to be decided by a doctor.

Why did you feel so low?

I hope you are feeling better and will talk with a doctor soon, if you would like to ask anything further please do.

Josh.

Hi kobamo, please contact your doctor or clinic straight away. They need to know the names of your meds and how many you took. You can also call the accident and emergency department of any hospital.

These people will give you medical advice based on the details of what you have taken. Your HIV clinic can also help with support to look at the things in life that made you feel this way and to do this.

    Please do this now.

I hope that things get easier and that you will be ok.
