Question
Is TLD safe for a pregnant woman?
3 March 2023. Related: All topics, Pregnancy.
I just found out that i’m pregnant. I have been HIV positive since 2020 with an undetectable VL. I’m on TLD and I want to ask if it is safe for a pregnant woman?
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
Yes, TLD is safe in pregnancy. TLD is safe for you and baby. It will continue to keep your viral load suppressed and help to prevent transmission to baby.
Josh.

Hi Zinga, thanks. TLD is a good medicine at any CD4 count. It will hopefully help you CD4 count to stay this high and hopefully grow higher.
I doctor they gave me Tld I just wanna know since I’m cd4 200 or lower is the pill ok for me to take or tolerant to take it?
Hello Patricia and thanks for getting in touch.
Most ARV combinations are appropriate for people who weigh at least 30 Kgr.
There is no maximum weight, only minimum which for most medication is 30Kgr
When i read they say they give a person weighing 30 kg but everytime when I go for treatment I weigh more than what I read. Last time I checked I was weighing 70 kg so why are they giving me this.
Hello Patricia and thanks for getting in touch.
I am very sorry to hear you are experiencing these side effects.
What has your doctor said about this?
It might be a good idea to have a stool culture to ensure there are no bacteria causing the diarrhoea.
All side effects should subside within within a few months (or even 6 months), however, a diarrhoea so intense as you describe should be investigated further and treated according to the findings
How long does it take for diarrhea to stop when taking volante tld?. The diarrhea is watery. It feels like is urine. Before you even rush to the toilet it already came out like urine.
Hi Bernie, thanks, yes both LTD ans septrin are very effective and very safe for both you and your baby. It sounds like you are getting very good care. LTD is also soometimes called TLD.

Hello doc,
I am pregnant and I just found out that I’m Hiv positive. They gave me LTD and septrin. Is LTD and septrin safe for my baby?
Hi Hind, congratulations on your pregnancy. Yes you can take Triumeq.
HIV medication is safe to take while pregnant. There is no risk of harm to baby.
As HIV treatment will suppress viral load and maintain your immune system, treatment is the best way to keep both you and baby healthy. It will help to prevent transmission to baby and prevent any further risk of other infections.
