Q and A

Question

Should I account for the time difference while working on a cruise ship?

Hi.

I am HIV positive and taking ARV medicine (TLD).

I was working in a worldwide cruise ship which sail from Asia to Europe to America, and then back again to Asia.

Generally it will have 1 hour time difference every 2-5 days.

I am currently taking my TLD at 7 A.M (GMT+7).

If i join the cruise ship again, will there be a problem if I always take my TLD every 7 A.M (GMT+7) despite of wherever I am?
It will be still 24 hours interval for me taking my medicine.

Or can I change my TLD time 1 hour every time the time difference occur? (The interval will be 25 hours)

Do you have advices about it?

Thank you.

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

If you continue to always take your treatment at the same time everyday (GMT+7) there will be no problem. The biggest problem being if you will be able to continue adjusting the actual time you take your medication e.g., 7am, 8am,9am…

If you are able to adjust to this there will be no problem.

As you are only shifting time zones every few days it would also be okay to continue taking your treatment at the same time e.g., always 7am. Being an hour late every couple of days is not going to risk your treatment not working. TLD has a long enough active time in the body that you can be an hour late and it not be a problem.
