Question
Do I have HIV?
30 July 2010. Related: All topics, HIV transmission.
I had sex with this guy in 2000 and in 2003 and although I dont know his HIV status, he died from pancreatitis in 2006 at the age of 36. His baby’s mother died from HIV in 2002 and as far as I know he had not been with her since around 1996-1997. People in my town are saying that he died form HIV and that he and his family kept it a secret.
I had an HIV test Monday and today the results came back negative. It has been 7 years since I had sex with this man is there any possibility at all that I could still have HIV and it not show in the HIV test?
Answer
Thank you for your question.
If you have had a test and it was negative then you do not have HIV. If the exposure was 7 years ago then a positive result would definitely have shown up on the test if you had HIV.
