Q and A

Question

Does Atripla cause upper stomach pain and should I be worried?

Also while taking Atripla for 10 months now I, on the odd occasions, get moderate to severe intensifying head pain should I see my GP or GUM DR for a check-up?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Upper stomach pain and headaches could be a side effect of taking Atripla. It is important that you speak to your HIV or GUM doctor about this. It might help if you kept a diary about the time and intensity of the pain to show your doctor so they can get an idea of the severity, duration and frequency of these pains.

    Hi Tjedzah,

There can be issues when changing to a new combination. However, these usually go within a few weeks. Stomach cramps aren’t a common side effect. Please see here: http://i-base.info/guides/1561 If you continue to have stomach pains, please talk to your doctor.
