Could I be infected after the drunken one night stand?

Hi,

I had a drunken one night stand with a girl before xmas and didn’t use a condom. Less than a week after I came down with a fever/temperature and had nightsweats as well as aching joints. I now feel fine but am ill with worry. Is the chance of cathing HIV high? I don’t know her HIV status but we only had vaginal sex no anal. Thanks

Not every sexual contact, even with someone who is HIV-positive, necessarily leads to an infection. In this case, you do not know the status of your partner. Let us not forget that the majority of the people are HIV-negative. Your symptoms could be a result of your worries or another infection. Still, it is a good idea to get tested. We advise all the people with active sexual life to get tested regularly-say every 6 months.
