Question
What is the risk of hand to genital contacts?
5 March 2008. Related: All topics, HIV transmission.
What is the final verdict in your opinion of hand to genital contact, particularly vaginal fluid. Almost all websites and doctors say that the risk is 0 even if accidental contact is made with eyes etc. You seem to deal with actual HIV patients and your experince in this matter is direct. So an answer from you will help. I would also like to know if a 15 week duo kit based test is conclusive for a low risk exposure and how relaible are those kit tests with blood from the veins not oral or prick test.
Your opinion will be highly appreciated.
Answer
Well, verdicts is hardly the thing that we deal with :)
According to the statistics, the chances of infection during this type of contact are really very near to 0. They will depend on the viral load in the vaginal fluid and whether the vaginal fluid has been in contact with an wounded surface of the hand, etc. All of these are theoretica speculations though. The chances are really very close to 0.
