Can I take 5HTP with my meds?

I am on on Truvada and etravirine (Intellence). It has been an exceptionally good combination and I don’t want to take anything that will affect it.

There does not appear to be any interactions with 5HTP and your HIV meds. However, drug interactions with 5HTP have not been researched extensively.
You should talk to your HIV doctor before starting these meds and ask him/her to monitor you closely when you first start the 5-HTP just in case. You should ask for a Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) test once you have begun taking the 5-HTP to ensure the levels of HIV meds in your blood are at adequate levels. This is just a precaution. Being monitored whenever starting new and relatively unknown drugs is always a good idea.
