Q and A

Question

Can my cd4 count go up? And if yes, how and when?

Answer

Hi

CD4 counts go up and down throughout the day and are very likely to be different between tests.

In early infection, CD4 counts usually drop a lot ain the first 1-2 months, buts then recover to a higher levels within six months as your immune sstem first starts to fight HIV.

Then, over time, CD4 counts usually have a trend to go down in people who are not on ARV treatment.

Generally, the best way for CD4 counts to increase, is to start treatment. This is especially the case if HIV has already reduced your CD4 count to under 350.
