Trustiva is a generic formulation of three ARVs in one (a combination of tenofovir, FTC and efavirenz).
A generic drug is an identical copy (bio-equivalent) of a brand name, (or proprietary) drug and they are exactly the same as their branded, counterparts in dosage form, safety, strength, route of, administration, quality, performance characteristics and intended use. The notable is that the generic drug should be less expensive.
According to MSF Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines, the lowest possible price of Tustiva is US$ 219 per patient per year – as of May 2011. This is the lowest possible global price for public healthcare in countries that buy in bulk using the Clinton initiative. It will more expensive if you buy this as an individual.
The list price from the manufacturers (Hetero HC) is INR 3750 (Indian rupees) per month (approx US $80) which would make that about US $960 a year plus any pharmacy charges.
All these medications need to be prescribed by a doctor.
