Q and A

Question

Does my combination cause lipodystrophy?

Hi,
I am on truvada and isentress. In an answer to a recent question you said that this combo was not associated with lipoatrophy. How is this combo in relation to lipodystrophy or are they both the same?

If these meds are associated with lipodystrophy which meds are not?

Thanking you again for this great service.

Answer

Thank you for your question.

There is a difference between lipoatrophy and lipodystrophy. Lipodystrophy is a medical term referring to changes in body fat. It includes lipoatrophy – fat loss; fat gain and metabolic changes. For a more detailed explanation, please follow this link to our guide.

Studies have shown that all combinations can cause some fat gain. However, as this is monitored individually, doctors are able to pick up any changes during routine monitoring visits.
