Question

Does finasteride (Propecia, Proscar) interact with HIV drugs?

Answer

Hi

I haven’t found anything in various online drug interaction charts that suggest this would be a problem.

    Hi Skyfall11,

Please talk to your doctor about any side effects you think there may be with finasteride.

    Hi everyone,
there are some small cases that using finasteride 1% may lead to breast cancer.
do you think that make it worse if you are positive?

    Hi Juan,

There is a possible chance that there could be an interaction with the efavirenz that are contained with Atripla. The research however that pertains to this is low as the following discusses:

Quality of Evidence: Very Low Summary: Coadministration has not been studied. Finasteride is metabolised by CYP3A4 and coadministration may decrease finasteride concentrations. Monitor therapeutic effect and increase finasteride dosage if needed.

Owing to this, you may want to talk to your doctor.

Hello. I’m from Argentina and I Have some dubts with my recently treatment for hiv diagnosis. I’ve been on finasteride for hair loss and now that I’been diagnosed with hiv I’m on an Atripla regime. My question is if is there any interaction between finssteride and Atripla, can I keep on both treatments? I’ll be grateful for a reply.
