Q and A

Question

Was in contact with blood in a hotel room, am I at risk?

Can I get HIV from a small amount of blood?
The story happened when I stayed at a hotel 4 days ago.
When I checked in my room, I hit the table so there were some open cuts on my foot, then I went to bed. At that time my foot got in contact with a small amount of blood. It was fresh and still liquid. I do not know where the blood came from, but there were people checking out from that same room 5 minutes before. If the blood was with HIV, am I at risk?

Thank you very much.

Answer

Getting infected this way is highly improbable, in fact, the chance is very near zero.

HIV survives in open air only several minutes. There is more information on HIV modes of transmission and testing here.
