Question
Shall I retest?
27 June 2009. Related: All topics, HIV testing.
I have had a 6 month negative duo test for HIV after a risky exposure. However, I’m still experiencing some funny symptoms, including a nasty rash down both sides of my body.
Although you suggest sexually active people to get tested every 6 months, I am not sexually active. Therefore, would you suggest a re-test considering my symptoms or can it be regarded as conclusive? There is a lot of conficting information on the internet surrounding conclusive tests and I am getting very stressed and confused!
Many, many thanks.
Answer
6 months is more than enough with the modern tests and this test result indicates that you are HIV-negative.
It is a good idea to go to a skin doctor and check those rashes though, as they may be caused by something else, and with some short treatment to be able to clear completely.
