Q and A

Question

Is it possible to have a CD4 count of 2000?

Answer

Thanks for your question.

Although the ‘normal’ range for CD4 counts without HIV is between 400-1600 there are some people who naturally have a CD4 count higher or lower than this. This can, rarely, be 2000 or higher. This is unusual, but not impossible.

Hi Longlive, your change in CD4 count is not related to HIV as your test confirms you are negative.

Please speak with your doctor about why your CD4 count has raised. At i-base we are not doctors and cannot provide medical advice.

    Hi Zweli,

There must be a mistake as it isn’t possible to have a CD4 count of 3900.

My CD4 is 3900. Is this normal? What could be the reason. When i tested positive my CD4 count was 1020, my viral load 490000. I started taking meds and the virus is suppressed but CD4 count increased to 3900.

    Hi Dera,

Meds are supposed to be taken daily, however as we’re all human it can happen that someone can forget to take a pill every now and then. If this is the case, this won’t be an issue. However if its happening on a regular basis your health could be affected.

What happens when I miss a dose or two of HIV meds

    Hi thokozile

It is common for one partner to e diagnosed first – you partner has just been luckily so far. You CD4 count is still very strong. Even though this is in the normal range for an HIV negative person the HIV test is very unlikely to be wrong.

    hi

i have recently found out that i am HIV positive, my cd4 count is 813. my patners results were negative and we dont use a condom.we have to retest after 6 months. is it possible for patenrs who do not use prtection to have different results? having a cd4 count of 813 does it mean, its cd4 count of a healthy person- could the results be incorrect?
