Q and A

Question

When will my meds start to work?

My CD4 is 252, I’ve been on meds for 3 weeks. How long will it take before the meds start to work? What about my viral load?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

ARVs begin to work as soon as you take them. Therefore, they will already be working. Your viral load should be decreasing and your CD4 count will slowly begin to rise. Ideally your viral load should be undetectable within 3 months. However, this can take longer especially if you began meds with a very high viral load.
