Q and A

Question

Is mouth thrush normal if I have just stated treatment?

Hi I was diagnosed in December 2017 and was put on treatment now am developing mouth thrush is this normal

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

December is recent so I expect this has been a difficult month.

Did your doctor test your CD4 count and viral load> If yes, what were the results?

If your CD4 count was very low, then the thrush might be a response to starting treatment. This is because your body can now respond to some infections that it was too weak to see before.

If yes, then the thrush should be better as your CD4 count gets higher.

Oral thrush (also called candida) is a common HIV symptoms in people who has a low CD4 count.

Has your doctor given you meds to reduce the thrush?
